Vision and Production Team for 2010
We are an energetic team of organizers, working together to create opportunities for the power of young voices to be heard, experienced and engaged. We hope the city of Asheville will be catalyzed by the ideas of these teens and members of the community will become more connected to one another, ready to play and work together in innovative ways. My role is to help us stay focused on our big picture intentions while attending to the many details of this event and initiative. We are committed to all aspects of TEDxNextGenerationAsheville being driven by passion and inspiration. Ashley's personal website.
My role is providing support and guidance to applicants, and then
selected presenters & performers, to ensure they are ready to give the
performance of their lifetime! This includes assisting them in developing
their ideas; linking them to mentors and coaches; and helping with any
questions or concerns.
Adolescence is a time of vibrant energy and possibility. As the Outreach Coordinator on the TEDxNGA design team, my role has been to bring those puzzle pieces of possibility into contact with each other. I love "match making" and social net-working. And given the amazing wealth of talent and good will that exist in the Asheville area, my job of matching the resources of time and talent to the vision of TEDxNGA is one of serendipity!
Nate Wilcox-Pettit is an eleventh grade student at Asheville High School.
He enjoys music, writing, dance parties, and live action roleplaying.
He spent two of the most crucial years of his teenage life traveling around the United States in an Airstream trailer. He loves making things happen and, even more so, making them awesome. Read his blog.
I am super excited to be a part of such an amazing event taking shape for the youth in Asheville. I am new to the Asheville area and have joined the TEDxNGA design team to help with media outreach and event planning.
I'm a 14 year old homeschool student, and was first youth on the design team mainly because I could make the 8:30 meetings. Now I attend meetings, give my two cents when I need to, and maintain the website. In what little spare time I have I enjoy playing piano and accordion, hurdling, and hanging out with my two pet goats.
Christina Latina is a graphic designer and creative director of Squirrel & Acorn Press. She has only been living in Asheville for a short time, but has planted her toes deep and is enjoying the engaging and collaborative spirit that seems to breath life to the small city. She is with TEDxNGA as creative guru and MIWS project head, among other things, and is helping to make TEDxNGA the most fantastic concept since sliced bread.www.christinalatina.com.
Julien is a 17 year old Senior going to Asheville High School. He likes lots of things, like computers and web programming, his recording studio that him and his dad built, and his 1st car, a 1991 Honda CRX that he is restoring. Julien got involved in TEDxNGA because he likes the idea of fellow teens getting a chance to get in front of people and say what they believe in.
Michael Files is a multi-media artist and designer that has recently resettled in the South after many years of furthering his personal education, and fostering his own inner well of creativity traveling the world. His most recent endeavor is Squirrel & Acorn Press, a letterpress and design studio opened here in Asheville with local designer Christina Latina.
Estella has been a part of the Asheville community for 13 years. Her unconventional education has allowed her to pursue her personal and worldly interests including playing the harp for 12 years, studying Natural Horsemanship and equine psychology, the art of leather-tooling, traditional and digital painting and drawing, travel, and the cultivation of diverse friendships. Estella enjoys her role on the design team of helping to imagine the possibilities for this TEDx event, as well as creating critical-thinking scenarios during the team's meetings.
My role is to work with the design team to help shape the program, work on the event planning, and support the team to make this a outstanding event for our community. I work across the team to help find resources we need. In addition, I am responsible for organizing the simultaneous video streaming of the live event in different locations around Asheville. This will allow a broader audience to watch the event as it happens and hear the ideas of our speakers and performers.
My work with TEDx Next Generation Asheville includes such sundry activities as entering data, designing communications, researching logistics, showing up, and coordinating volunteers. I'm here because I love how the TED model brings the power of one to the support and resources of a community. When you get so much brilliance, bravery, and constructive energy together... what isn't possible? I'm so excited!
